SHILLONG: Police on Friday recovered the nude body of a woman from the Shillong Club premises. The body is suspected to have been dumped in the place for the last four days.

Additional SP (Crime) Vivek Syiem informed that the body was first spotted by the security guards who then immediately informed the police about this.

According to Syiem, the body appears to be that of a non-tribal woman within the age group of 30 to 35 years.

He also informed that the woman appears to be a Hindu as she wore a sacred pendant on her neck while adding that her clothes (a pair of jeans, a churidar with green and white flowers, a pink chunri and brown shirt) were recovered from the spot.

Police are still investigating the case to ascertain if she is a victim of rape and murder. After preliminary examination, police said the body bore no external injury marks.

“We will await the post-mortem report to ascertain whether she was raped before being killed,” the Additional SP (Crime) said.

Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered in this connection and attempts are on to track down the culprit.

On hearing of the crime, several fear-stricken people gathered at the Shillong Club premises.

A bystander said, “How can such a crime happen in a place which is apparently well guarded and considered an elite club?”

Some others in the crowd wondered if the woman was killed within the Club premises and later dumped at the place where she was found.
