Guwahati: The court of Special Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup district in Assam on Friday rejected the closure report submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the year 2007 murder of Food Corporation of India (FCI) Executive Director (North East) P C Ram and directed the investigating agency to carry out further investigation into the case by ‘another responsible officer’.

Petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Nekibur Zaman informed that the order was issued by Special Judicial Magistrate Nazneen Ahmed in the wake of a petition filed by slain FCI officer’s son Praveen Kumar Gautom against the closure report filed by the CBI to the court sometimes ago after its investigation into Ram’s failed to nail the culprits. The CBI in the closure report expressed its inability to carry out further investigation due to lack of sufficient evidence. The senior FCI official was abducted from Guwahati on April 18, 2007, and subsequently killed in a crossfire between security forces and ULFA militants who had kept him in captivity, at Borka village in Assam’s Kamrup district on July 11, 2007.
