JOWAI: Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner in charge, B Mawlong, and other district officials including officials from PWD and JHADC accompanied by JSU leaders and elders of bordering villages around Khanduli conducted a joint inspection of the disputed border area along with officials from Hamren Sub-division of Karbi-Anglong district of Assam on Thursday.

The visiting team conducted an inspection of the NEC-funded road on which is claimed by both Assam PWD and Meghalaya PWD.

A dispute had erupted over the road recently when a Jaintia hills based PWD contractor completed the consolidation work but Assam PWD stepped in and completed the road with black topping.

The team also inspected the uprooted pillar at Zero Point and later decided to ask the NEC to decide on whether the Assam PWD or the Meghalaya PWD should re-erect the pillar.

Both sides also decided that Assam PWD, Meghalaya PWD along with Karbi Students’ Association, Jaintia Students’ Union and Karbi and Pnar elders of villages along the border will again conduct a joint survey in July.
