Itanagar: Giving a clarion call to the State Police Force to fasten their belts, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Friday said, ‘if our police stick to their duties with utmost sincerity and fearlessly, our state would develop and be at par with the others.’
While attending the passing out parade of new recruits at the Police Training Center (PTC) here at Banderdewa, Tuki beckoned the police force to live up to the expectations of the people as well as the government so that administration, progress and peace go hand in hand for development and welfare of the society, official sources said.
He particularly called for an active role of the police in thwarting the ‘bandh culture’, which, was taking the state on the reverse.
Expressing displeasure over the recent 48-hour bandh in the state capital enforced by certain organizations, Tuki refused to accept the logic behind the ‘ultimatum’ and the ‘deadline’ served to the state government to fulfill certain demands put forth by the said organizations.
He pointed out that as far as the demand for relaxation of age for APST in APPSC competitive examinations up to 35 years was concerned, it has to be understood that decision that cannot be taken individually by the Commission or the government.
The state Public Service Commission is an autonomous body constituted by an Act passed by the State Legislative Assembly and has its own guidelines, rules and regulations, he said and added any change in it would have to be done through a constitutional amendment only by the Legislative Assembly during one of its sittings.
The Chief Minister was also critical about the other demand for “immediate cancellation of land allotments to non-APSTs,” sources said.
He reasoned that few allotments were given to non-Arunachalees and non-Arunachalee organizations during the formative years of the state, when the locals and local bodies were not in a position to set up any industry or institution.
‘Lands were allotted to organizations like Ramakrishna Mission, Vivekananda Kendra, Don Bosco and others to set up hospitals, schools and industries during the pre-evolution time of Arunachal Pradesh,” Tuki said.
” After so many years of their service to the state and its people, are we going to drive them away? In fact we should reward them for their contributions when none even dared to set foot into the region,” the chief minister said. (UNI)
