JOWAI: The house belonging to the AJYWO-WJZ president, Salonki Dhar was allegedly set on fire by unknown miscreants at Wahiajer, Lumbhahdakha in the wee hours on Friday last.

Miscreants allegedly used petrol to set the house, attached with a furniture workshop, on fire. Dhar informed that the fire damaged most of the furniture including various tools used by carpenters, besides plank and paints amounting to an estimated Rs 1.20 lakh.

The 28-year old, Dhar is planing to contest in the

forthcoming Assembly election in 2013 from Nartiang constituency.

“This happened just because I had decided to contest the assembly election slated next year”, he said while alleging that a group of persons suspected to be supporters of another candidate wanted to stop him from contesting.

Dhar’s mother, Yoolin Dhar also informed that few days ago, unknown miscreants attacked their house with stones.

Sources said that most of the villagers are not happy with the decision taken by Salonki Dhar to contest the next assembly election as they are in favour of the sitting MLA who belongs to the same village.

A police complaint was lodged in this connection with Ummulong police.

Meanwhile, the village elders have strongly denied Dhar’s claim. “The incident has no link with the forthcoming election”, said locality chairman, Paia Dhar and Rangbah Shnong, Kmen Shylla.
