TURA: All branches of the State Bank of India in Garo Hills will remain closed on Monday in protest against the kidnapping of its accountant Abdul Halim, posted at Songsak Branch in East Garo Hills by armed militants on 23rd last.

Informing this, State Bank of India Staff Association (SBISA), Tura stated that an emergent meeting of the SBISA decided that they would hold a procession on July 2 to appeal for the immediate and unconditional release of Abdul Halim.

All transactions in the SBI branches of the three districts of Garo Hills will remain closed on Monday.

We will also submit a memorandum to the West Garo Hills DC demanding the facilitation of our accountants’ safe release stated the SBISA. It may be noted that Abdul Halim accompanied by his branch manager were travelling back to Assam for the weekend when they were waylaid by armed militants on songsak-Mendhipathar road in East Garo Hills.
