TURA: After 47 days since their abduction, police recovered the bodies of the two kidnapped headmasters of Hatigaon-Belpara Lower Primary School of Goalpara, Assam on Saturday.

The decomposing bodies of Kameswar Rabha and Sharit Rabha, who were also activists of the All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), were dug out from Thanti Peak, near Kachumari in Goalpara district, Assam.

According to sources, police had arrested one Newstar Sangma on suspicion that he was involved in the abduction of the headmasters from Daogiri village which falls under Agia Police Station.

After interrogation, Newstar confessed that he was a member of a dacoit gang and that the gang was engaged in extortion from various places in the name of the GNLA and that there were 12 members in the gang.

Newstar also admitted to having had a hand in the abduction and murder of Kameswar Rabha and Sharit Rabha and spilled the beans on where the bodies had been buried.

Based on information obtained from Newstar’s interrogation, police have started a hunt to nab the rest of the gang members.
