TURA: Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice AK Goel, arrived at Tura on Monday on a two-day visit.
Justice Goel, accompanied by his wife, visited the Tura District Jail on Monday and later inspected the land situated behind the Deputy Commissioner’s Office allotted to the District Administration for setting up of a Circuit High Court.
This is the second time a Chief Justice of the High Court has come to inspect the land. Earlier, the then Chief Justice Madan B Lakur had inspected the site on December 17, 2010. At that time the Tura Bar Association had out rightly rejected the land allotted for the establishment of the Circuit High Court, but this time the Association has reconciled and approved the land. Later, Justice Goel was accorded a grand reception at the Tura Circuit House with a colourful cultural programme, which was attended by West Garo Hills officials, teachers and school students who sang patriotic songs and performed various ethnic dances.
