SHILLONG: Many youths in Ri Bhoi district will have a source of employment when the MUDA shopping mall comes up in Nongpoh, the district headquarter.
The new shopping mall, which is being given final touches, will provide employment to around four hundred people in the district where employment is still a major issue.
Talking about the upcoming mall, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “This mall is meant for the unemployed youths and the idea is to generate employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of the area.”
Lyngdoh informed that the shopping mall will have around 412 shops.
It is learnt that a committee headed by Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner is looking into matters regarding the upcoming mall.
“The Committee also has the local MLA as member,” Lyngdoh said.
Inauguration of the mall will be held soon but the process of allotment of shops to the beneficiaries has already begun, she said.
Earlier, the shopping mall could not be inaugurated since there were power problems, but the problem has been rectified.
