SHILLONG: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday stated that the North Eastern states should put in joint efforts to promote the region in every sector.

Addressing media persons here in the city on Thursday during his visit to Shillong, the Assam Chief Minister said, “The NE states need a joint effort to promote trade and commerce for the interest of all.”

Assam does not consider itself as the leader of the North East and all states are equally important for the overall development of the NE, he said. He also warned that many forces are trying to disturb the North East region and all the states should collectively spoil the intentions of these forces.

“We want our relationship to grow further as we have to live together,” Gogoi said.

He also said that the NE cannot lag behind since the region has various kinds of human and natural resources besides being an attractive location for tourists.

Gogoi inspected the construction of the Assam Bhawan at Dhankheti. He is scheduled to attend a function at IIM, Shillong on Friday morning.

“IIM Shillong is a prestigious institute and it gives opportunity to the youth of the region to progress in today’s competitive world,” he said.
