Bangkok: Thailand’s Queen Sirikit has been advised rest by her doctors after an MRI examination showed a slight shortage of blood in her brain, the Royal Palace announced on Sunday.

The announcement said the 79-year-old queen had felt dizziness on Saturday morning while exercising and had staggered a little but was still fully conscious.

The doctors found a slight shortage of blood in the cerebellum, but could see no bleeding and treated the queen by giving her a blood transfusion, the online Bangkok Post paper said adding that the doctors were keeping her under close watch.

The Queen has been advised to suspend all official duties for a period. Just over a week back King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 84, was found to have slight bleeding in his brain’s outer membrane that caused twitching in his hand.

He is said to have recovered after receiving intravenous medication.

The king, the world’s longest-serving monarch, is Thailand’s most revered figure. (PTI)
