SHILLONG: Like previous years, the NCC Unit of St Anthony’s College on Thursday organised a commemorative function on the 12th death anniversary of war hero, Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas.
During the function, Floral tribute was paid to this war hero by his family members and other dignaitaries who were present on the occasion.
The father of Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, Peter Keishing while speaking at the function recalled the sacrifice which his son made for the country.
Peter Keishing last year had gone to the actual spot where his son sacrificed his life for the country while fighting the intruders of Pakistan in the Indian soil.
The sacrifice of martyr who died fighting infiltrators in the Batalik sub-sector of Kargil in north of Jammu and Kashmir was remembered by the NCC unit, teachers, staffs and students of this college.
Keishing Clifford Nongrum was also awarded the Nation’s second highest wartime gallantry award Maha Vir Chakra on August 15, 1999 for acts of bravery and selfless courage.
Captain Nongrum was a student of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong who later graduated from St Anthony’s college in the year 1996 where he got through the Defence examination in his first try and later joined the Army forces.
College students, teachers, families and senior officers from the NCC were also present on the occasion.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War’s Heroes who defeated Pakistan in the 1999 war.
