SHILLONG: To check the resistance of the new improved Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the Election Commission of India will conduct another mock poll on August 25 at Sohra.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Naik on Sunday said, ” Last time some faults were detected in the machines and this time the mock poll is being done to see whether the faults have been rectified.
Last year too, Sohra was chosen as one of the venues for the mock poll due to its extreme weather and it saw a record turn around of 80 per cent. VVPAT is a system attached to an EVM that allows a voter to verify that his/her vote was cast correctly.
He also informed that the department is gearing up itself for the mock poll and the machines would reach the state probably in the second or the third week of the month.
