Shillong: Teachers of the State under the banner of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (KJDST&EA) on Friday suspended their ongoing agitation against the government’s failure to address their various demands.

The teachers called off their agitation after the Director of School Education and Literacy issued a written assurance that the formalities for release of the 30 per cent arrears due to the teachers would be completed within two weeks, KJDST&EA organising secretary, Kular Khongjirem, informed.

The deficit school teachers had gone on a two-day mass casual leave following the government’s failure to address their long-pending demands.

The teaching community however warned that if the government failed to stay true to its commitment, they would immediately call for more intensified agitation.

“If they do not respond within August 30 then we will announce our agitation the very next day,” Khongjirem added.
