SHILLONG: The North Eastern Congress Committee (NECCC) has requested Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to elevate the status of Union Minister of State in charge of DoNER to a rank of a full fledged Cabinet Minister.
“At present, a person who holds the Ministry of DoNER is only a Minister of State with independent charge which makes him incompatible with protocol when he seeks to chair meetings attended by Governors and Chief Minister of North Eastern States,” NECC chairman DD Lapang in a letter addressed to Prime Minister recently.
