BSF programme
As part of a series of civic programmes, the BSF on Sunday organised a tree plantation, cleaning of the surrounding areas including the water reservoirs and maintenance of the plants already planted at Umpling and Mawpat, Shillong. A lecture on Environment and various other programmes were also organised by the BSF personnel based in Shillong and Tura. Also, the BSF deployed in West Garo Hills on Sunday organised a free medical camp at Beldova on the Indo-Bangladesh border where free medical check-up and free medicines were distributed to 500 villagers of bordering areas by doctors of BSF.
Seminar
The NE Service AIR, Shillong in collaboration with the State Biodiversity Board is organising a seminar on ‘Conservation of Biodiversity in North East India’ at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah on Wednesday from 10am to 12.30pm. The seminar will be attended by PBO Warjri, the Additional Chief Secretary, as the chief guest.
Strike
As part of the different agitational programmes taken up by the United Forum of Bank Unions against ‘Banking Law (Amendment) bill’ and various banking reform policies taken up by the Government of India, two centralised joint demonstrations will be held on Tuesday, one in front of SBI Zonal office at Bawri Mansion, Dhankheti and the other in front of SBI Shillong (Main branch). There will also be a two-day nation-wide bank strike on Wednesday and Thursday.
Behdeiñkhlam
The Seiñ Raij Mukhla will celebrate the Behdeiñkhlam festival 2012 on August 27 on Seiñ Raij Mukhla premises at Mukhla Nongrim. The festivities will begin on August 24.
Press meet
A general meeting of all media persons (print and electronic) will be held on August 27 at 1 pm at the Shillong Press Club to discuss issues concerning the welfare and interests of media persons and how to improve information dissemination. Formation of an organisation to strengthen the bond among journalists and media persons will also be explored in the meeting.
Unidentified body
A body of an unidentified male around 25 years of age was found hanging on August 18 at around 5.30 am inside the Traffic Booth near the Shillong Civil Hospital. Relatives are requested to come with some identify and claim the body.
Unclaimed body
One Santosh Bhattacharjee (65) was found lying at MUDA Complex at Khyndai Lad on July 26. He was suspected to have fallen sick and was removed to Shillong Civil Hospital but died on August 2. The body is currently lying in the hospital morgue. Relatives have been requested to claim the body.
Missing
One Nasima Jyrwa went missing from Lower Mawprem, Bishop’s Falls on August 11. It was reported that she left home between 5.30pm to 6pm and when last seen, she was wearing a maroon blouse and a skirt and a jainkyrshah.
