SHILLONG: The State unit of BJP has demanded an enquiry into the payment which was made to the job card holders under MGNREGS in West Garo Hills just before the Eid celebrations.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, State General Secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said that there were many anomalies and malpractices taking place in the scheme in West Garo hills district as no payment was made for the daily wage which is Rs 117 per man for the work executed in the year 2011-12

“Now new work order issued at Rs 128 per man days for the same work executed in last financial years by which it will seriously affect 100 days job guarantee for the year 2011/2012 and also 2012-13 payments are made by fictitious muster roll at Rs 128 for the works executed by original Muster Roll Rs 117 in last financial year,” the statement added.

The party also expressed its concern over the statement made by Pravin Bakshi, Deputy Commissioner and District Programmer coordinator  MGNREGS, West Garo who had termed the sanctioning of the fund as an Eid gift.

“The payment that was made during EID is not a bonus or any extra payment which can be considered as an EID Gift,” the statement added.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Rural Development had released an amount of Rs 28 crore for the beneficiaries of the centrally sponsored scheme.
