SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly and National People’s Party (NPP) leader Conrad Sangma on Monday met Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Charles Pyngrope, to discuss the NCP’s planned move to appeal for the disqualification of the 12 former NCP MLAs who had joined the NPP last week.
NCP central observer for the Northeastern states, Robert Kharshiing, had on Sunday stated that he would appeal to the Speaker seeking disqualification of the 12 legislators under the Anti-Defection Law.
The NCP has been claiming that since it is a national party, any merger or split has to take place at the national level.
“I don’t think their appeals will be entertained,” Conrad told reporters after his meeting with the Speaker, while adding that the NCP leaders have not understood the rule clearly.
Conrad also invited Sanbor Shullai, who has been appointed convener of the NCP state unit, and other NCP leaders to associate themselves with the NPP under Purno A Sangma.
