SHILLONG: “The problem in Bodoland is not a religious issue but it is the right for land,” Governor RS Mooshahary said on Sunday.

He added that the notion that Muslims are being targeted by the Bodos along communal lines is false since the real reason is the issue of land.

Speaking to a group of reporters after the function, the Governor said that Bodoland is boiling because of the migrants who have occupied land whereas the Bodos themselves have no land.

The indigenous genuine landholders in Bodoland are Bodos besides Bengalis and other communities, he said, while adding that the crisis has emerged because of the land rights issue between the migrants and the indigenous people.

When asked if there is any solution to this vexed issue, the Governor refused to give a direct answer saying, “It is an ongoing process.”
