Public procession against frequent power failure

 NONGPOH: Aggrieved over the frequent power failure in Nongpoh and adjacent areas, the conglomeration of headmen and social organizations called for a public procession on September 7 protesting against the Meghalaya Electricity Energy Corporation Limited’s (MeECL) inability to provide regular power supply.

The decision was taken in a meeting convened by the HNYF and the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong at Sajer Community Hall on Saturday.

HNYF central body president GH Kharshanlor informed that, the procession will commence from Pahamsyiem at 10 am and will culminate at DC’s Office. Supported by various educational institutes and social organizations, a Coordination Committee on Electricity was also constituted with the HNYF president GH Kharshanlor as its chairman.

After the procession, the Committee will also submit a representation to the DC, Ri-Bhoi district expressing concern over the frequent power cuts in th area and a copy of the same would also be sent to all the MLAs.

The Ri Bhoi College, St Paul Secondary School, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School etc. along with members of the KSU, HNYF, FKJGP and RBYF will take part in the rally.

After the procession, they will also submit a representation to the DC Ri Bhoi District expressing concern over the frequent power failure in the areas with a copy to all the MLAs and also follow up with MeECL authority, he added.
