TURA: In view of the already damaged and still deteriorating roads and bridges of Chokpot area, the NGOs of Chokpot area have jointly decided to allow only 1109/709 trucks to ply on Chokpot road and also not to allow overloaded vehicles on the road.
President of Federation for A’chik Freedom (FAF), Jessy Marak informed that, in a meeting held between the various NGOs of Chokpot area a decision was taken to strictly monitor the plying of heavy vehicles in the roads of the area.
Due to the plying of heavy and overloaded vehicles, the roads and bridges have been damaged to such a condition that, so very often the bridges which have a load limit of only 9 tons give way under the heavily loaded vehicles which transport coal, rocks and other such materials and stay stuck for days blocking the way for other vehicles also.
Moreover FAF stated that the 9 tons limit of the bridges is only for namesake and that in fact, the bridges are weak even to support the 9 ton limit.
“We have taken this responsibility upon ourselves because both the PWD Department and the political leaders of Chokpot area have not shown any concern for the roads and bridges of the area,” said the FAF President.
The NGOs have also appealed to the Chokpot Coal Supply Association to co-operate in view of the public interest of the area since the cause is genuine and for the betterment of the people in general.
