SHILLONG: The Shillong bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed the State Government to ensure that no commercial vehicle is parked in any other places of the city other than Anjalee Parking lot and Polo Parking lot.

The court issued this directive on August 28 in response to a petition filed by the Meghalaya Tourist Transporters Association (MTTA).

The MTTA had moved the court seeking an additional plot of land for parking tourist vehicles.

Several tourist vehicles are seen waiting for passengers at different locations of the city including Civil Hospital point, Anjalee Petrol Pump, Jhalupara and Lumdiengjri etc.

This order, one hopes, would bring an end to this.

Delivering the verdict, the judge said, “The petitioner (MTTA) is directed not to park the vehicles in any other place other than the places identified, for which they naturally have to pay the required parking fees.”

It may be mentioned that in 2010 the MTTA was evacuated from the Shillong Municipal Board Parking Lot near State Bank of India (Main branch).

Later, the State Government allotted Anjalee Cinema Hall Parking Lot and Polo Parking Lot for the MTTA to part its vehicles.
