State police to work in tandem with BSF

 Shillong: The state police together with the BSF and the Village Defence Party (VDP) members of villages situated in the Indo-Bangla border area have agreed to work together in preventing the illegal entry of people from the neighbouring country to the Indian Territory in search for harvest and other commodities.

The agreement was made at a meeting, a first of its kind to be held on such issues at Pynursla PS on Saturday. The meeting was attended by VDP members of various villages including Pyrdiwah, Lyngkhad, Lapalang, Umkhen, Hatthymmai besides others. “With the harvesting season starting soon, it was expected that people from the neighbouring country would try to infiltrate into our side and steal the harvests and other commodities of the local people. So we have decided to curb such infiltration by working together with the local people and the BSF”, a senior police source said here on Saturday.

The members present at the meeting have also resolved to join in the patrolling along with the BSF all along the 19kms patrolling area from pillar 1251 to 1273 to prevent any untoward incidences. It was also informed that a meeting of this kind will be held every month to discuss on the strategies to prevent infiltration besides ensuring the safety and security of the local people.

The police have also requested all the Sardar of Raid Mukertila, Lyngkhad, Rangnad, Nohwet, Nongshken, Nongjri and others to cooperate with the security forces in this effort.

The meeting was also attended by Sub-Division Police Officer (SDPO) of Sohra Ian Onel Swer, Assistant commandant of BSF Pankaj Kumar, Coy Commandant of Pyrdiwah, Nongjri and Dawki, VDP Adviser SG Khongiong and secretary of the federation of Ri War Mihngi P Rynjah besides others.
