SHILLONG: The State Government has provided geospatial data of the ‘disputed’ territories to Assam to help the neighbouring state to pin point the areas of differences since names of the villages vary in Assam and Meghalaya.
The geospatial data refers to data concerning a place, collected in real time.
The State Government had, earlier, submitted documents and maps related to the 12 areas of differences to the Assam Government, after which it had sought further details regarding the villages under the areas of differences.
The 12 areas of differences include Upper Tarabari, Gizang Reserve Forest, Hahim, Langpih, Borduar, Boklapara, Nongwah-Matamur, Khanapara-Pillangkata, Deshdemoreah, Block I and Block II, Khanduli-Psiar and Ratacherra.
“The Assam government wanted more details of the villages since the names of some border villages did not tally with the names Assam have,” Chief Secretary WMS Pariat told The Shillong Times on Thursday.
While the name ‘Langpih’ is used in Meghalaya, the same village is referred to as ‘Lampi’ in Assam.
“We have submitted the clarifications including the geospatial data of the villages which would be below 20 in number,” the Chief Secretary said.
There was delay on the part of Assam Government to convene the next Chief Secretary level meeting to discuss the border issue in the aftermath of the recent clashes in Assam.
“We hope to have a chief secretary level meeting to discuss the border dispute by the end of this month or the beginning of next month,” Pariat said.
