SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday lambasted UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh saying his party is trying to take political mileage out of Khyndailad beautification project.
The UDP legislator had earlier led a delegation of party members to inspect the Khyndailad beautification work and criticized the Urban Affairs department and the PWD for the tardy progress of the project.
Speaking to media persons here, Lyngdoh said, “With the State Assembly election approaching, there should be some discipline in politics. The UDP is a coalition partner of the Government and the individual legislator parading some of the members, making complaints… I disagree with such actions and feel the UDP is trying to take political mileage out of the situation”.
The Minister also asserted that the Urban Affairs department and MUDA have little to do with the ongoing project as they have already handed over Rs 2.76 crore, the estimated amount for the project, to the PWD for execution.
According to her, the department has pursued the matter several times with the PWD minister, who is working on the project to ensure its early completion.
Earlier, the UDP legislator had said that the project would linger for years.
The project, which was inaugurated in October 2011, was supposed to be completed before the beginning of this monsoon. Now the revised target for the completion of the project is July, 2013.
