JOWAI: The Lamdibok Sumer led Executive Committee in the Jaintia hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has decided to construct a new court building and a dorbar hall in Jowai.

The JHADC has proposed the two major projects under the 13th Finance Commission at a cost of Rs 2.33 crore.

The JHADC had earlier proposed estimates of Rs 3.19 crore and Rs 3.34 crore respectively for the constructions of the court building and the dorball hall, but the Civil Works Department of the Council received a sanction of only Rs 2.34 crore.

According to the Sumer, the amount released and received by the JHADC is the first installment and more funds will be released in a phased manner.

Sumer also informed that the dorbar hall will be constructed at the JHADC land near the District Agriculture Office while the court building would be constructed at Riatsasim where the JHADC guest house and staff quarter are located.

“We have received the sanction and we are waiting for the approval of the District Council Affairs (DCA),” the CEM said.

Additional Chief Engineer, Ms J Pde, informed that the court building would be a four-storey building including the ground floor to be used as parking lot. The first and the second floor will be used as shopping complexes while the top floor will house the court room.
