SHILLONG: The Megh-alaya Democratic Party (MDP) chief Martle N Mukhim has made it clear that his party would not be a part of any alliance which will have UDP as its ally.

Announcing his candidature from Mawkynrew, Mukhim said, “Despite being founder of the UDP, I came out of it after seeing that majority of the leaders were more inclined to serve their own interests rather than serving the people”.

The MDP would like to have an association with those parties which follow similar ideologies and principles, Mukhim told newsmen here on Wednesday.

He claimed that the UDP leadership has continuously been sending feelers to him seeking him come back.

Meanwhile, he informed the party decided to field candidate only in Mawkynrew.

When asked about his chances, he said he lost the last election by a narrow margin of 66 votes.

“I am confident of winning the election since I have learnt a lesson from my past mistakes,” he added.
