Tuki urged to reserve 50 pc seats for women

Itanagar: All India Mahila Congress Committee president Anita Verma on Wednesday requested Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to bring legislation for providing 50 per cent reservation for women in panchayat and local bodies’ elections in the state.

Verma made this plea while addressing a state level Mahila Congress convention here where Tuki was present.

“Women should develop at par with their male counterpart and they have all rights to participate in every spheres right from education to politics,” Verma said.

The state unit of the Mahila Congress also submitted a memorandum to Verma demanding 30 three per cent reservation for women in assembly and general elections. (PTI)
