Programme

The directorate of social welfare will organise a programme on Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme for infirm/widows and disabled on October 6 at Shillong Club (Residential). Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma will be the chief guest.

Coin Mela

The United Bank of India organised the 2nd coin distribution mela on Thursday at its Shillong Branch office . A total amount of Rs 1.60 lakhs was distributed among the 200 general public. The mela will be held every month.

Annual sports

The Tedim Chin Students’ Association will be organising the annual sports on October 1 and 2 at Parish Ground in Nongshillinag. Thawng Thang will be the chief guest on the first day of the sports meet at 10 am and Banri Kupar Wahlang will grace the closing ceremony as the chief guest. They will also organise Khuadi Pawi (harvest festival of the Zomi) on October 26 at Parish Hall, Nongshilliang.

Miss Shillong

The Miss Shillong beauty pageant has been shifted from October 6 to October 27 at State Central Library premises. In all, 20 contestants have been thoroughly groomed to vie for the coveted Miss Shillong Crown.

Training prog

The office of the Deputy Commissioner (election) West Khasi Hills on Thursday organised a training programme on electoral registration in Trysem Hall for booth level officers (BLOs) for 32-Nongstoin (ST), 33-Rambrai Jyrngam (ST) and 34-Mawshynrut (ST) assembly constituencies.

Symposium

The Department of Biochemistry, NEHU is organizing an International symposium (ISOA-2012) on Aging and 16th biennial conference of Association of Gerontology (India) from October 1-3. About 150 participants/delegates from all over the world, including our India are expected to attend the symposium.

Meeting

The general body meeting of Federation Of All Meghalaya Adhoc Secondary Teachers’ Association (FAMASTA) will be held on October 6 at Don Bosco Hall, Laitumkhrah at 10 A.M.

Also, the mass casual leave will be observed on the Thursday and Friday as a part of the agitation scheduled by the association, since there was no response from the Government as usual.

Food festival

Sarada Sangha, a city based philanthropic organization, will organize a food festival – “Come to the Mother’s kithen” (Esho Maayer Ranna Ghorey) on October 6 at 11am with many mouth-watering delicacies as special attraction at Opera Hall, Thana Road.

Blood donation

The Yogamaya Ashram, Laban, in collaboration with the NEIGRIHMS will organize a voluntary blood donation camp on the Ashram premises from 10 am to 1 pm on Sunday, September 30. The Ashram management has requested the public to participate in the camp.

Timing change

The annual general meeting of the Meghalaya Pensioners’ Association will now be held at 4 pm on September 29, instead of 1pm as reported earlier. There is no change of the venue.
