SHILLONG: St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, lifted the 9th North East School Soccer Tournament 2012 after defeating FS Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, 2-1 in the final, which was recently organised by Assam Valley School, Balipara.

While St Anthony’s has participated in the tournament since 2005, this is the first time that the school has lifted the winners’ trophy.

Altogether, seven schools from various parts of North East took part in the tournament.

In 2009 and 2010, the Shillong school managed to reach the semifinals.

Jimmy Rymbai, a class XII commerce student of the school was declared the Man-of-the-Tournament.

It should be mentioned that a class X student of the school, Russel Lyngdoh, was selected for a week-long coaching camp under the guidance of Manchester United in Bangalore recently.

At the end of the camp Lyngdoh was declared the best student out of the 52 trainees.

He will be a member of the squad representing the country in the Soccer Festival, to be held in London in the second week of November.
