IMPHAL: The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) observed a protest dharna on Thursday condemning the statement of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde who had said no to the introduction of Inner Line Permit system (ILP) in Manipur.

Veteran MPP leader O Joy told reporters it was an indecent act of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who has become an elected lawmaker, to abuse the Manipur assembly House without courtesy. The demonstration was staged in front of the MPP office building here.

Joy further called on the Prime Minister for action against Shinde for allegedly uttering such offensive remarks. “Our state needs an urgent Act to save its people even though the ILP system is not enforced.”

MPP on September 26 had strongly reacted against the statement made by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shende in New Delhi regarding the issue of ILP urging him to withdraw it.

Shinde in his statement made on September 10 in New Delhi in connection with a Bill passed unanimously in the last session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly session demanding the introduction of ILP System in Manipur, had said, “Our Constitution will not allow such things. Any sensible person who believes in the Constitution will not pass such a bill.”

Responding to a media quarry on the sidelines of the demonstration, MPP president Sanasam Umananda said, “The party being a regional party it is our sole responsibility to safeguard the indigenous people of the state.” (NNN)
