Itanagar: The Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF)-sponsored 48-hour capital bandh ended peacefully here on Saturday morning barring few stray incidents.

The bandh, called to protest the shifting of Greenfield Airport Project from Banderdewa to Hollongi, began at 0500 hrs on Thursday. It paralysed life of this twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlogun.

All markets, business houses, banks, post offices, central government offices and educational institutions remained closed. Thin attendance was recorded in state government offices during the bandh period. All modes of private and public vehicles remained off the road. State transport buses also suspended inter state and city services.

Elaborate security arrangements had been made by the district administration to prevent any untoward incident.

Opposing shifting of proposed airport site, the BCIF had demanded immediate cancellation of all official procedures for construction of the airport at Hollongi.

The shifting of airport project from Banderdewa to Hollongi was taken by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) recently for security and cost effective reason. (UNI)
