Agartala: The ruling CPI-M in Tripura on Friday commemorated the killing of 11 cadres and two security personnel killed in the state on this day 25 years ago.
A mass gathering was held at Birchandramanu, 85 km south of here where the killings took place. The spot is marked by a 50 feet memorial.
CPI-M state secretary Bijon Dhar said 301 members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist were killed during the Congress regime of 1988-93.
“Eleven CPI-M cadres and two security personnel were butchered in Birchandra Manu village in 1988 when the Congress-led government ruled the state,” Dhar said.
People assembled in large numbers Friday at Birchandra Manu.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who is also a CPI-M politburo member, and the party’s central committee member Badal Chowdhury were among those who addressed the gathering.
“Ahead of the assembly elections, we want to expose the killings and anti-people policies of the Congress before the people, especially the new generation,” he said. The assembly polls are scheduled for February next year. (IANS)
