NONGPOH: The poor condition of the Nongpoh- Umden and Nongpoh-Umsawnongbri road has irked the residents who have complained about the immense hardship they have to go through on account of the deplorable road condition.

Expressing its deep concern on Friday, the Ri-Bhoi Students’ Union (RBSU) Nongpoh Circle said the pathetic condition of the roads have brought about endless miseries to the residents of over 50 villages who use the stretch to reach Nongpoh.

While alleging negligence on part of the concerned authorities in repairing the road connecting to NH 40, the RBSU said that the road has been damaged due to the plying of heavily loaded vehicles belonging to the Ramky Infrastructure, which is implementing the four-lane road project.

“This has not only worsened the road condition but also posed a threat to human life as the road now is unable to withstand the pressure of heavy vehicles plying through it,” RBSU stated.

The Union has also asked the company to undertake repair work for this stretch of road for the welfare of the people.
