SHILLONG: The goalkeeper of city-based football club Royal Wahingdoh Nikhil Bernard was injured in a freak accident when the local taxi he was traveling in fell into a deep gorge on National Highway-40 (Shillong-Dawki road) on Saturday evening. The mishap, in which four other persons were injured, occurred at Lad Mawiong (near Laitlyngkot) when the taxi (ML 10 1229) was on its way from Pynsurla to Shillong. The vehicle reportedly skidded off the road on reaching a sharp turn and fell into a deep gorge. The injured were later shifted to Nazareth Hospital and Woodland Hospital. Police suspect that inclement weather could be the cause of the mishap.
