SHILLONG: Following an appeal from the management, the Meghalaya Transport Corporation Workers’ Union (MTCWU) on Monday resolved to give additional time to the State Government to release the fifty per cent arrears due to them before the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.

It may be reminded that the MTCWU had earlier set a deadline of October 5 which was then extended to October 15 for payment of their arrears and the pending salary for four months. An MTCWU member said, “The delay in disbursement of salary and release of the 50 per cent arrears has affected the livelihood of the workers. It will create more problems and difficulties for the employees and more so for the Hindu believers who will be celebrating Durga Puja in the coming week.”
