SHILLONG: Senior Congress leader and Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope on Monday was all praise for members of the Mahila Congress for their efforts towards the growth and popularity of the party in the State.

“I hope they continue with this good work to ensure the victory of the party in the upcoming Assembly election,” he said while addressing the Mahila leaders of the 60 Assembly constituencies during a one-day training organised by the State Mahila Congress at the Congress Bhavan here on Monday.

While lauding the Mahila Congress for organising this training programme, he said this was a good initiative towards enhancing the capacity of the Mahila leaders who would be responsible for coordinating with the various frontal wings of the party at the block level.

The training is being organized to improve the organizing skills of the Mahila leaders ahead of the 2013 State election.

AIMC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya Poonam Rani Wangkhem informed that they are also expected to train the Mahila leaders on the issue of protocol. “The Mahila leaders would have to handle the VIPs who are visiting the respective blocks,” she said.

From amongst its existing members, the Congress has recently appointed women managers in all 60 constituencies of the state to oversee the election process.

The in-charge would also be coordinating with other wings of the party including the MPCC to ensure a smooth run for the Congress during the polls.
