SHILLONG: Despite opposition from several corners, the State Cabinet on Thursday decided to extend the service of State Sports Council Chief Engineer H Kharmalki.
“Kharmalki will be in office until such time when he is required to be replaced by another officer on deputation from other technical departments,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting here on Thursday.
This decision of the Cabinet has come as a surprise considering the controversy surrounding the extension of service of Kharmalki.
It may be mentioned that the KSU and FKJGP had earlier opposed the extension of the service of Kharmalki by the State Sports department without the requisite Cabinet approval.
