TURA: A group of suspected GNLA militants, led by its area commander Savio Marak, kidnapped four traders from Damal Asim market on Friday.

Preliminary reports reveal that the four traders (two hailing from Phulbari and the others from Rajabala) were forcibly taken away by a group of armed militants, dressed in camouflage.

A large scale police operation has been launched in the entire Dadenggre area to try and prevent the militants from escaping out of the zone into other jungle areas and special police checks have been set up in all the roads connecting Damal Asim to the rest of the district.

It is worth mentioning that the same area was used by militants last year in November to kidnap Block Development Officer PK Boro who was taken through the Damal Asim region.

On Tuesday last, police had arrested a forest guard from Damal Asim area for working with the GNLA.

Tura Police laid a trap and caught forest guard Ajit M Sangma and Odek B Marak, both from Damal Asim, while they were returning after delivering fifty thousand rupees extorted from wine shops of Dadenggre to GNLA commander Savio R Marak. One motorcycle used by them was also seized during the arrest which took place at Rongram town, 15 km from Tura.
