Kohima: Altogether six of its tribal units have extended their support to the stand of Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO) which rejected the Special Plan Assistant (SPA) granted by the Planning Commission as a special development package for Eastern Nagaland.
The six tribal units, the Chang Khulie Satshang (CKS), Konyak Union (KU), United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC), Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC) and Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) also warned that any tribe, organisation, elected members, contractors, individuals who involve themselves in the special development package will be doing so at their own risks.
The six tribal units in a joint release issued by USLP president Serangmong Sangtam, KU president Khoiwang Konyak, KTC vice president Bhuming Khiam, PPC president Leisha Phom, YTC vice president Shellumthung and CKS president Kaimang Chang also said that they have unanimously rejected the offer of Rs two crore each for construction of tribal complexes and questioned the Nagaland government as to why it should go ahead with the work programmes despite ENPO’s rejection.
They further stated that though the state government has come out with the work programmes.
They will not allow any works to be initiated within their jurisdiction out of the special development package.
Maintaining that the ENPO is not a platform or source for accessing Central funds for clearing state government’s liabilities, the six tribal units pointed out that as per the public resolution on June 12, 2012 at Tuensang.
This was duly signed by all the six tribal presidents on behalf of the ENPO, the eastern Nagaland public rejected the offers of the state government.
They said the public resolution, which stated nothing less than a full-fledged statehood as demanded by the ENPO public, was officially conveyed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on June 22. (UNI)
