SHILLONG: Senior IPS officer B Kezo is all set to succeed N Ramachandran as Meghalaya’s police chief.
Kezo would assume office once the state Home Department gets the Centre’s nod.
Official sources on Monday said that since Kezo’s appointment involves inter- cadre deputation as he is currently serving as the DG ( Prisons ) Nagaland, Delhi’s clearance is needed for his appointment.
Like in the past, the State Government this time too ignored seniority in the appointment of DGP.
On October 19 the State Security Commission had shortlisted the names of five police officials of Assam-Meghalaya cadre for the post as per their seniority.
Besides Kezo, (1978 batch), other shortlisted officers were DG Prisons Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch), Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami and Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh (both 1977 batch) and DK Pathak, ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi (1979 batch). The present incumbent Ramachandran is retiring on Wednesday. Source s said that Kezo will assume office in the first week of November and till then the Additional DG (Law and Order) in Meghalaya Rajiv Mehta is likely to discharge the duties of DGP. After handing over the charge to Kezo, Mehta will assume charge as the Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on November 10 in Delhi.
