SHILLONG: The Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope has decided to write to all the 11 ‘defected’ NCP legislators to know if they officially merged with the newly-formed National People’s Party (NPP).
The Speaker will issue a letter on November 7 on the basis of the complaint lodged by NCP legislator and Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai. “A week’s time will be given to them to respond,” Pyngrope said on Tuesday.
The Speaker said that he would in fact forward the complaint lodged by Shullai to the defected legislators to reply.
“If they seek more time to reply, the same would be granted”, the Speaker said.
The NCP legislators, except Shullai and Adolf Hitler Marak, merged with the Purno Sangma’s NPP two months back.
However, even after their claim of merger on August 24 last, the defected legislators are yet to submit any official document to the Speaker to affirm the merger.
Earlier, the NCP general secretary, DP Tripathi had demanded action against the defected legislators. However the complaint of Tripathi was disallowed by the Speaker since he was not a member of the State Assembly.
This prompted the NCP legislator Shullai to lodge the complaint with the Speaker.
Assault case: Meanwhile, the Speaker said there was no need to seek permission from him to interrogate Congress legislator Found Cajee in connection with the alleged assault of news photographer, W Lytan.
Police earlier said that they had written to the Speaker seeking his permission to question Cajee.
“I have not received any letter. But at the same time police can take statement from the legislator without my permission”, the Speaker added.
