Disaster averted, police defuse 3 IEDs

SHILLONG: A major disaster was averted after the police defused three powerful IEDs planted by suspected GNLA militants at Nalnapara in West Garo Hills on Saturday .

According to police, three bombs weighing between 2 to 5 kg were recovered from the road near Nalnapara 6 km away from Kherapata-Dalu road at around 11. 30 am on Saturday.

The bombs were planted to target the security forces moving around the area.

Police suspect that the GNLA cadres led by Hedeo Ch Momin , the Area Commander of West Garo Hills planted the bombs. Police have picked up some suspects for interrogation.

The police had prior information about the move of the rebel outfit to plant bombs on Friday night, but did not have the details.
