Itanagar: Former Aruanchal Pradesh Lok Sabha MP Kiren Rijiju has ended his three-year-long exile from BJP after he returned to the party-fold.
Addressing media-persons here after his return to the BJP recently, Mr Rijiju said, ‘I never joined Congress or any political party, it was only a political compromise.’
Terming his return to BJP as a ‘homecoming’, Mr Rijiju clarified his stand saying, ‘I never accepted primary membership which was offered to me by the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) after my switching over to the Congress fold.’
Expressing gratitude to UPA chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi, who immediately accepted his joining, the popular BJP leader from the state disclosed ‘a meeting was also convened in Delhi about his joining which was attended by former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu, Jarbom Gamlin, Takam Sanjoy and other senior leaders of Congress party’.
After linking with Congress, Mr Rijiju was appointed as principal advisor of then chief minister Dorjee Khandu’s government, said, ‘Before joining I repeatedly asked the state Congress leaders that I would not accept any post during my short stay in this party, but due to personal request of former chief minister I had accepted the post only in paper ‘I never attended any meeting nor took any advantage of the post’, he further stated.
Apologising to the people of the state, Mr Rijiju said he was committed to continue his work for the betterment for the people of the state and to strengthen the BJP. (UNI)
