SHILLONG: The HSPDP on Sunday criticized Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for ‘shielding’ tainted ministers and legislators who were involved in the appointment of LP teachers in the State.

The party, which is a coalition partner in the Congress-led MUA Government, also questioned the Chief Minister’s motive of directing Chief Secretary WMS Pariat to find out the sources who had leaked the CBI report on the alleged manipulation in the appointment of assistant teachers.

“We do not approve the directive of the Chief Minister to probe the leakage of the CBI report. Instead of taking action against the tainted peoples’ representatives, he (Dr Sangma) attempted a ‘cover-up’ by questioning the leakage of the report,” HSPDP spokesperson G Nonglong said in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He said that the Chief Minister’s decision to ask for inquiry into the leakage of the CBI report has put serious question on his ‘integrity’.

“The Chief Minister is sending a ‘wrong signal’ in the way the government functions and further encourages the wrong-doers not to mend their ways in future,” Nonglong said.

The statement also appreciated the efficient officers and concerned persons who helped unearth the crime and also the media which made this ‘back-door crime’ come to the limelight.
