One killed, several hurt in separate road accidents

 SHILLONG: One 22-year-old identified by police as Mohammed Ishan Haque sustained injuries after his bike collided with a Maruti Alto.

Around 3:45pm Monday, 22-year-old Mohammed Ishan Haque on a Yamaha Bike and 38-year-old Gideon Bareh in the Alto were driving from Police Bazar to MES on wrong side of the road as per information given by the police.

After the crash Ishan’s bike fell into the drain running parallel to the road. Although Bareh came out unscratched, Haque was hospitalised and is currently in NEIGRIHMS. According to information given by the Garikhana police station, two more persons were riding on the bike with Ishan.

The police will decide the sections, either or both of them have to be charged under, after they are able to take Haque’s statement.

In another incident, one lady identified as Jhainela Kharnaior (43) died on the spot after the Private Maruti car, ML 10 A 1946 in which she was travelling skidded off the road near Mawkdok bridge on Monday evening.

The other eight occupants of the vehicle received injuries and they were shifted to Shillong for treatment.
