SHILLONG: The UDP Ri-Bhoi Youth Wing has lodge a complaint against Umsning Block Development Officer (BDO) PS Kharkongor for indirectly campaigning for former Chief Minister and Congress candidate DD Lapang during a sports event recently.

In a letter addressed to Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akash Deep on Tuesday, UDP Ri-Bhoi Youth Wing working president Rayonald Kharkamni said that the BDO was present at the 1st DD Lapang Basketball Tournament organized by Nongpoh Mahila Congress Committee.

“We strongly oppose such campaigning by an MCS officer which is against the Meghalaya Services (Conduct) Rules. A credited officer of his rank involving in campaigning for a candidate directly and indirectly has brought doubts over his credentials,” Kharkamni said.

While raising question on the intention of the officer to participate in political functions organised by the Congress Party, Kharkamni urged the Government to take stringent action against the BDO and any other officers in the district who attend any such political functions in the future to ensure discipline and integrity.
