SHILLONG: Uncertainty prevails over the appointment of the next State police chief after DGP designate Besesayo Kezo opted out of the race.
The State Government is really in a state of dilemma with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma taking his time to decide whom to appoint as the next DGP of the State out of the four names of senior IPS officers which were submitted to him.
Earlier, the State Home department had sent the files with the remaining four names – DG (Prisons), Kulbir Krishan; Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami; Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh; and ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi, DK Pathak – to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for his consideration.
What is worse is that the officiating DGP Rajiv Mehta would also have to leave the State since he has to take charge of his new assignment as the DGP (Narcotics) on November 10.
Official sources on Friday informed that the only option for the State Government is to appoint another acting DGP until a full-fledged police chief is appointed.
