SHILLONG: Firebrand UDP leader Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit is likely to face disciplinary action as he failed to respond to the show-cause notice issued by the UDP leadership.

The UDP leadership is likely to meet on Monday to take a final call on this issue.

The one-week deadline which was given to Nongkrem legislator to respond to the show-cause notice will end on Friday.

In the notice, the UDP leadership asked Basaiawmoit to make his stand clear whether he is interested in contesting the upcoming Assembly elections on the UDP ticket.

“The party would take a final call on the action to be taken against Basaiawmoit by Monday,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said on Thursday.

When asked if there is any possibility of expelling Basaiawmoit from the party for failing to respond to the show-cause notice, Lyngdoh said he was not in a position to comment on it. “We would definitely look into all the possibilities,” he said. Rumours have been flying thick and fast that UDP firebrand leader, who had criticised the UDP leadership Dr Donkupar Roy for issuing party ticket to one Dr Md Mizanur Rehman Kazi to contest from Rajabala constituency, is planning to quit the party to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP).
