Two-day Health Mela organised

SHILLONG: With a view to provide better health care to people in the rural areas, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), through the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, Nongstoin, organised a two-day Health Mela at Mawsaw Government Upper Primary school on Wednesday and Thursday where thousands of people were benefited.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Deputy Chief Minister Mr Rowell Lyngdoh, who is also in-charge of Health and Family Welfare, stated that the purpose of organising this Health Mela is not just to give away free medical treatment to the people, but also to make them aware about the different types of sickness and how to be self responsible in caring about their own health.

He therefore, called upon the people to take up the opportunity of this health mela by availing free medical checkup for various diseases wherein specialist Doctors of different lines are available at their doorstep.

Lyngdoh also expressed that the state Government through the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has been trying hard to strengthen the health care services in our state by organising different Health camps and Health Melas in rural areas.

Further, he also urged the people to extend their cooperation with the Government for the smooth implementation of various development schemes.

The meeting was also attended by the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, A Mawlong, the District Medical and Health Officer, Nongstoin Dr. P Lyngkhoi, the additional District Medical and Health Officer, Nongstoin and other.

Later, Specialist Doctors from Shillong as well as from Nongstoin rendered the medical check-up to the people of different age groups during these two days.
